SensorIO

The Universal IoT Prototyper

SensorIO is a powerful ARM Cortex®-M4, mbed™-enabled development platform designed to accelerate the prototyping of connected IoT devices. Originally developed for Conrad Electronics, it provides a professional-grade gateway into the IoT ecosystem.

The Problem

When Conrad Electronics sought to enter the professional development board market, they faced a highly fragmented landscape. Developers were often locked into a single ecosystem—whether Arduino R3, Seeedstudio Grove, or MikroE Click Boards—making it difficult to rapidly prototype systems that required a mix of different sensors and modules without complex custom wiring or multiple bridge boards.

Our Solution

OhmTech designed SensorIO as a “Universal Translator” for the IoT world. We engineered a flexible hardware architecture that allows developers to simultaneously connect and control modules from three major ecosystems on a single board. The core innovation lies in a sophisticated multiplexing system that dynamically routes signals and manages voltage levels (3.3V and 5V) to ensure full compatibility across all systems.

The Engineering

The board integrates a comprehensive suite of tools and sensors for professional prototyping:

  • Multi-Ecosystem Support: Native headers for Arduino R3 shields, Grove modules, and MikroBUS Click boards.
  • Software-Configurable Multiplexing: Advanced analog multiplexers that support both 3.3V and 5V logic, allowing for seamless integration of disparate components.
  • Embedded Sensors: Integrated 3-axis accelerometer, luminosity sensor, and a high-precision VOC / Air Quality sensor for environmental monitoring.
  • Industrial I/O: Dual opto-relay outputs for safe switching of external high-power loads.
  • Developer Experience: Integrated ST-Link V2/1 debug interface for real-time code execution and analysis.
  • Connectivity: Robust Wi-Fi™ support for cloud-connected applications and remote monitoring.
